How to Get Rid of Mosquitoes for Good

More than 170 millions of years ago, mosquitoes roam the earth. Although, records say that the mosquito then are bigger than the mosquitoes we know today. Both of them however can transmit diseases. Malaria and elephantiasis are two of the most dangerous diseases borne out of mosquito bites.
 
Other diseases such as yellow fever, dengue fever, epidemic polyarthritis, Rift Valley fever and West Nile virus may be transmitted through mosquito bites as well. It is therefore necessary that you ensure you get rid of mosquito that will put your home at risk.
 
Getting rid of this insect needs to start by ensuring that you keep mosquitoes away such as the following:
  • Do not allow stagnant water to stay more than two days. Check old tires, flower bases and pet dishes for water.
     
  • You may also need to check rain gutters and remove water that accumulates. Especially after rain, check the rain gutter so you can assure no stagnant water will stay in them.
     
  • Trim or hedges regularly. Mosquitoes may hide on them.
     
  • Mow the lawn once a week. Mosquitoes may also hide on tall grasses.
     
  • Screen windows and doors to make sure mosquitoes do not enter your home.
Mosquito repellent may also be helpful to get rid of mosquito bites that may be harmful to your health.
  • Citronella oil
  • Catnip oil extract
  • Eucalyptus oil extract
  • Wormwood or sagewort
  • Lemon balm
  • Lemon grass
  • Lemon thyme
To soothe the itchiness of a mosquito bite, use the following:
  • Calamine lotion
  • Water vapor
  • Lactic acid
  • Aloe Vera
  • Lavender oil
Additionally, did you know that sounds, even a soothing sound might repel mosquitoes? Mosquitoes dislike sound, so they keep themselves on dark and quite areas. Be cautious on these areas including your basement.
 
A fan may be helpful in keeping mosquitoes away because mosquitoes may be swept away easily.
 
Finally, a home remedy for itchy mosquito bite: Bar soap rubbed on the mosquito bite. Pat it day, do not rub because you will rub off the soap, and it may not work. Avoid scratching your mosquito bite because it will break your skin and subject you to infection.
 
Keep mosquitoes away to make sure that you will avoid diseases that this tiny insect may carry.
